Bottom line: it is improper and incompetent to connect multiple, separate data sets together and anyone doing it should receive remedial education if not fired outright.

The comics by XKCD and Josh (in WUWT), bring to the front an issue of lack of skill by government paid scientists. When I Founded and Directed the Research Lab for Intel, this was one of the huge problems I had to address with the personnel: they focused on "what they wanted to show" rather than "good science".

The "error/uncertainty" in the data has the following:

Diffusion uncertainty: Migration of geochemical signals occurs in polar ice cores primarily in the upper ~60 �“ 80-m-thick firn layer; in glaciers experiencing summer melt, migration may be much faster and persist to much greater depths. For cold firn, migration is essentially by molecular diffusion below the upper ~10 m. Diffusion uncertainty is important to the extent that the characteristic length of diffusion exceeds the characteristic depth-resolution at a proxy is being used.

Note the "ice age" vs the "gas age": any values above about 100m depth is not comparable to the deeper values.
